Hi all,

my leather looks like it is getting algae on the soft leather part, it is 80% covered in a browny coloured film. Is this a thing?

Yes it's trying to shed. Give him a lil more flow to help it along. Also remember the slime coat is toxic to most other corals. I siphon out and remove.

Agreed. Increased flow should help. I have on occasion used a toothbrush for a very, very gentle ‘help it along’ plan to get some algae off.

Yes due to intense lighting and/or lack of water flow.
Start with gentle blasts with a turkey baster and then direct flow towards - not at the leather

As the others have said, its probably not algae... leathers will shed old tissue as they grow. Its a good sign that your leather is growing and expanding. You can help it along a bit using a turkey baster, or just increasing flow in the tank. In a day or two, your leather will look good as new, and maybe slightly larger.
