Can you get live rock in Canada?

I have never seen or heard of anywhere that us Canadian reefers can get live rock.
Does anyone know where we can get it from?

Are you in Ontario? If so, "Big Al's" locations tend to carry it. Marketplace and Kijiji also usually have from people breaking down their tanks.

@Mr. Mojo Rising is in Toronto, has very good taste in music (so you can trust his judgement) and typically suggests using real, wet live rock

Maybe he knows a good source in your area.

I'm a big fan of the ocean maricultured live rock like what Tampa Bay Saltwater offers, but clearly there would be issues shipping such a product across the Canadian/USA border.

But that said, I consider real, wet live rock purchased from a decent fish shop or possibly from when a hobbyist breaks down their tank (assuming no glaring pest issues) to be the next best way to go. I would personally try to find rock like this rather than using all dry rock.

I believe it is illegal in Canada to sell rocks from the ocean. Which is why we can’t find any, anywhere. I agree live rocks from LFS or tank tear down is the way to go.

Oh yeah, and understandably so. But as much as I like the aquacultured rock right out of the ocean, I believe that a decent fish store in your area *should* have some decent, wet, mature live rock.

I have a fish store near me in Upstate New York, USA that has really good looking rock for like $7USD/pound. I don't think everyone has access to a decent fish shop like I have, but I would use their wet, live rock over dry any day

I wish there was but there is no real live rock in Canada that I know of. Some places like Big Al's sells aquacultured live rock. But at the cost I just buy dry rocks and aquaculture them myself, which is very easy to do, ask me if you want to know.

As mentioned, another option would be to buy rocks from someone else's tank, the downside is that you can end up with some nasty pests. I got a rock once with blue cloves polyps and I put it in my tank, one year later I had to dismantle that tank cause it was completely overrun with blue cloves.
