Starting a new reef tank and want to do it right without having to get any hitchhikers was wondering if I could get them if I use dry rock but live sand

Live sand in a bag won't have pests. It is cheaper to use dry sand. From a bacteria perspective though both the live sand in a bag and dry sand will be almost identical in about a months time anyways. The only good thing the live sand is saving you time in rinsing it.

That alone probably makes it worthwhile. Good lord I hate rinsing sand.
