Candy cane splitting but not growing any new skeleton.

My candy canes are splitting like crazy. They’ve gone from nearly dead to two heads to like 10 heads now. But they just keep splitting. At what point do they start growing new stony skeleton and branching out? My hammer coral recently split and immediately it grew a new skeleton for the new head.

They won't branch out till they get crowded. Believe me, I know. My colonies stared out with a couple heads, now:

Candy canes don't really branch like hammers- they split and then each head just keeps growing forward.

They do branch, but you’ll notice it when your colony gets bigger. Their branches grow very dense as well.

The big one in my photo has branches that are as long as my hand underneath those polyps. Definitely branch.

They do branch, but they don't really create new branches below a head like euphyllia do. Heads just divide and grow apart . Because of this, they expand much more vertically than euphyllia.

Mine have gone from almost dead at the LFS to a smaller ish colony. First two pics are now. Next three are in crono order of what they looked like when I got them home. I thought they straight up died after a FW DIP. They had some kind of white worms all in the skeleton. Then a month later there they were better than before.

Yours looks normal and healthy. Have you looked underneath the coral? You should see some branches.
