I am trying to free up a section in my built in sump area for a macro algae grow site (with light to run at night). I'm thinking of removing the balls from the first section for the micro algae, and putting them into a small Sunsun canister filter I have laying around. My thinking is, the canister would draw from the fourth chamber (and either return to the forth or third) and only have the MP balls in it and possibly some rock rubble to fill in space, no foam or other mechanical traps for debris.

There are 4 sections on the back:
Fist has floss and half MP balls,
Second has the heater and skimmer
Third is full of MP balls and a bag of carbon,
Forth half balls/ and a cut up 1" plate of MP, and the return pump.

Any thoughts?
