OK, so I started off my 40 gallon tank about a year ago with a fluval 206 canister filter. Everything was going great (besides the diatoms/brow algae) in this first year. Then I decided to get a sump for the tank because I was tired of looking at everything hanging from my tank. typical right? Well here comes the issue. As I switched over to a sump, I noticed my corals weren't too happy. I checked my parameters, I noticed Ammonia and my nitrites were basically 0. Did I break the cycle? I turned off the protein skimmer to see if something would get it going again. My refugium probably is not helping much either. Anyways if anyone here has some advice, I would appreciate it greatly! Mahalo!

The change effected the tanks balance. If you know the numbers before the change, I would try to get back to those. Once close try to keep them stable and the corals should rebound once they adapt.
You will have bacteria in the sump that might not be the same type or amount as in the canister. It should all be ok but might take weeks to stablize.

NO, the canister has been cleaned. My guess, I cold turkied this and removed the good bacteria within the canister. The first few days the corals did not like it< yet they're starting to come around. The long tip anemone has been ok as well.
here is a picture of one of the corals about 10 minutes ago.
