Agree with you Randy. I run carbon full time and change out monthly

I was mainly after Algae control but found that a filter made by Marineland does that quite nicely after using it with new filter replacements instead of cleaning and reusing and using for a month at constant flow had the effect of having algae start coating the " glass " after three weeks. That being said With the Fluval Canister I was being redundant using an Ammonia solid media , a product no longer made Nitra Guard for Nitrate, Nitrite pad made by Fluval, Clearcarb made by fluval for Phosphate removal, and carbon only because It was the go to for fresh water ( activated ). I quit using Bio Max by Fluval because it is a white solid media ever since you suggested it regarding another product you proved added aluminium. So since I started using Tropic Marin ALL-FOR-REEF I was wondering if the carbon was counter productive. If you recall I asked about the use of the marineland product which uses a 5 micron filter which you put that concern to rest. So Carbon is an unanswered question benefit or not or worse

GAC is very useful, but algae control is not one of the uses. In general, I also would not use a canister filter if algae control is the goal. I’d typically recommend a better clean up crew.

So If you don't mind what does it do. Als how is your build doing? busy with mine although this months Tank of the month blew my attitude for a while. I cannot even think of competing with some of the Tanks. Yours included

Granular activated carbon binds organic matter, which can otherwise make the water yellow, and may include toxins and various other undesirable materials.

Tank build is going fine. Ups and downs like everyone. :)
