hello everyone, I'm proud to be sharing with you guys my latest build. When I was planning this tank and researching the equipment I'd be using I realized how "pretty" some of the new stuff was (sumps skimmers and light fixtures). So I figured instead of hiding all this cool looking very expensive equipment, why not show it off? Why hide what's under the hood when that's really what's keeping this thing running? I figured, those who understand the hobby will enjoy it and those that don't will still be intrigued. I don't know anything about cars but if you pop the hood on a fancy sports car I'm gonna be interested to see even though I don't understand it. Well, that's the concept behind the build.

The tank itself is 12"x12"x36" (just under 20 gal) rimless acrylic tank that I made myself. I had an acrylic shop cut me the panels and I did the rest. It has a herbie overflow and a return coming out the back. The plumbing isn't as efficient as it could be but I really liked how it looked. That size plumbing is already overkill for a tank that size so I didn't mind losing a few gph for a cool look.
The skimmer, sump and reactor are also overkill but I'll probably wanna upgrade the tank size once I move from my temporary apt in alittle over a year. I figured since it's got kind of a laboratory look to it i can pull off doing a bare bottom. I'm not gonna make this post much longer to avoid losing you guys lol. Here's some of the equipment

Mp40 (wave maker)
Vertex multi media reactor (carbon)

Lol yea, I like how they remind me of those giant lego blocks I'd play with as a kid. Yes you buy them like that. Just google search "colored pvc"

That is just plain fun - and yeah, a kids' Lego / Duplo set was the first thing that ran through my mind.

Good choice with the gate valves - I used ball valves, because that's what BRS had, but there are places I wish I had a gate's finer control.

lol thank you, it's all about fun! Yea, the gate valves help a lot to fine tune the herbie. Since the sump isn't in a stand it was important for me to make it silent and the gate valves help a ton with that.

Thats possibly most colourful plumbing I ever saw. I liked the aquascape too.
Don't you think a mp40 is quite a flow for tank under 20G ?

Thank you! The first few pics had my old rock that I was just holding till I completed the new aquascape. It's a minimalistic look but I like minimalistic aquascapes and hopefully fill it in with plenty of coral ^_^. Yea, the mp40 is overkill but I have it tuned all the way down and everything seems to be fine. I'll probably get a bigger tank sometime soon so I didn't wanna get rid of it and have to invest in something smaller just to have to upgrade again anyway.

I really like the multicolored pvc pipes and cinder blocks. Has a raw feeling to it. Very cool.

Naw, just stacked them. I bought a big roll of that rubber/foam mat that people use to put in gyms under all the equipment to protect their floors and I cut that stuff up. You can see it between the bricks and the wood/floor and under the tank.
