Since I dropped Purigen in the tank (100ml) my Chaeto has been dying. Other macro has been growing just fine. Correlation to use of purigen and lack of nutrients for Chaeto?

Lives off nitrates, I have 2 large balls of it in my DT, when it starts going brown it's lack of nitrates, which is probably what you bought the purigen for. Mine started to do that when I added purigen, but then I added fish which balanced everything out. So my readings say 0 nitrates, but I know it's because the Chaeto is sucking it up and not a true 0.

My chaeto turns brown and dies. It used to grow well. I was taking a lot out every couple weeks then it stopped growing and started dying. In my case it is not low nitrates, I've been fighting really high nitrates for a while so there has been plenty of nitrates in my water. I suspect is is lack of phosphate.
