Chaeto Anyone?

Mine doesn't tumble either, but I do turn it over once in awhile. I've also had it grow several inches over the waterline when it gets real big, doesn''t even have to be submerged. I do have a filter on my return pump, but not on the skimmer and never had a problem with it.

Phew! I'm glad it doesn't tumble for others as well. When we first got ours, it tumbled as a small ball, but now that it is a big mass, I turn it once a day.. maybe twice. The con for me is just fishing the little strands out of places. It's not that big of a con, though. I also have a deep bed of live sand and approx. 5-10 lbs of live rock to help grow pods. It is a 15 lbs refugium for a 55 g tank. There used to be a few pieces of caulerpa in there that was caught up in some of the chaeto from a LFS, but we took it out because we were afraid something would go wrong and it could mess up the system.

I knew my boyfriend really, really wanted chaeto, but had no idea it was THIS great compared to the other choices! Good luck with your fuge! I love ours. I watch it just as much as the aquarium lol I might post a pic tomorrow morning.

Well now I just need to figure out a place to put it! I may not have enough room to be able to add enough Chaeto to help.

We tried growing chaeto several times over the years without success. We could, however, grow just about any other kind of macro algae available, including the "harder to keep" varieties that require calcium without any effort.

After changing the layout of our prop tank/refugium several times, I finally decided to try a large CPR hang on refugium on the prop tank last year. The flow thru the refugium is low enough that the chaeto doesn't break up and it grows like crazy. It is also a great pod factory and we have even used it as a safe place for a couple of our smaller wrasses to recuperate from injuries.

I have the CPR HOB fuge and it is a chaeto growing machine. I'll post pics tonight.

This sounds like just what I had in mind Terry. A photo would be greatly appreciated. After studying the sump last night, there is absolutely no room to add it without creating a real problem.

Does anyone use Miracle Mud in their refugium?
Installing a refugium on the back of my display tank is not possible. I plan to put it on my sump. My sump has a 2" lip. Do you think it will work?
