I bought a cup of chateo and when I put it in the sump over 3 days it has totally unraveled I have a Fuji cube 24 sump
With a refugium sect also have rubble in it I was able to retrieve most of it but how to stop it from happening again…. Rubber band? The chateo is still nice and green

does the chaeto size in general seem to be getting smaller or it just does not stay in a ball? could be the flow is too strong in that area and won’t allow the ball to stay and continue forming.

if it is getting smaller then it could be lack of nutrients.

the only thing I think is a problem is the refuge is in front of return chamber and it may be getting pulled into that but it just seemed to unravel

If adjusting the flow doesn’t fix it, you could tie it together with fishing line or put it in a basket. It coming apart isn’t necessarily a problem though, unless it’s getting into other chambers.

That’s what happened the chamber behind it is where it went that’s where the return pump is and the grill of the pump was full of it
