Hi everyone, I'm Johnny.
I found this forum after doing some searching for help on one of my chalice coral. The place I purchased from about 3 years ago called it a Red Assassin chalice. It might be a Hellfire Chalice or some kind of red rim chalice. So here's my issue, 3 years.. only 1 eye. Eats aggressively has not grown. It started bulking up a little recently..I have many other corals that grow very well..I just can't seem to get this to take off..I spot feed it at least once a week. Also I don't know how to post pics on here. Asking for image URL? Can't we just upload from phone?

Do you have the reef2reef app? It's so easy as you can tap on the + button than on the picture button, select your pic and upload. As for the chalice, sometimes these corals take time to grow. Can you post ur parameters? Your family name show ur from Lebanese origin, right?

Thank you for the info, I just downloaded the app. That helps. I uploaded an image. Yes my father is Lebanese. I'm not sure my exact parameters. I make sure the salt levels are good. I add calcium and buffer and magnesium when I do a water change every two weeks. I see some of the chalice coral really taking off. This one has just been stubborn.

Welcome to R2R! 3 years is a long time for it not to have grown even a little. I'm thinking the parameters are off and not providing it with enough of what it needs to grow. You'll want to post the exact numbers when you get them for everything especially Calcium, Magnesium and Alkalinity.

Thank you for responding, I will do a test and post parameters. When I take water samples to my local store they test and say it's good.

Welcome to R2R! 3 yrs. is a long time for no growth. Chalices are slow growers, it does look healthy though. Wait to see your parameters wo help you more.

We always do that, because most people who bring in their water to test wouldn't know what the numbers mean. If they ask, we right them down and of course, we never test the big three unless the customer requests them be done. Some places charge for that too. You'll probably have to ask for the MG, Ca and Alk to be done and have them write down the numbers for you. Otherwise they are probably just testing ammonia, PH, nitrate and nitrite

Im always pleased to meet fellow Lebanese reefers... You should visit, u'll like this country.
I usually don't trust the LFS testing my water, although there's some great shops.
Better to buy your own kits, Salifert or Elos are good for Ca, Mg, Kh, No3 and Hanna photometer for phosphate. It seams that your chalice is not growing because some parameters are out of range. Do you have any other SPS or LPS? Can you post a full tank pic.
