Chalice growth question...

I have a couple of chalice frags that are growing to the edge of the frag plugs. Would it help to mount them on a rock to grow onto or will they just grow out past the plug normally? The reason I ask is because I have one that is following the plug down and will soon run out of space.

It will just grow out on what ever is there for it to grow on when it grows down the plug. I let mine grow out onto the sand
