Chalice Help

For all the experts. What causes a chalice to start receding from the edge. I have some that are not doing it and some that are. I had one of my nicest chalices grow like crazy and then all of a sudden i see some skeleton and then theres no stopping it. doesnt seem like its rotting or decaying, just seems like it is shrinking off of the skeleton.

All other corals are doing fine and i check my parameters regularly and they are fine.

Just 1? Have you added any new stuff to the tank? ALK swing?

i am not an expert but.
possible bacteria infection do you have product called revive. it is a coral wash made from plant extracts.or use reef glue to glue down affected area. i have not done this yet i was just told about this yesterday. but i have used revive.maybe someone else will chime in with more experience with this problem. -chris

Check your Mg. Its usually the cause. IME.

+1 I am not a chalice collector by any means, but I do have 4. Anyway one of them was doing that last week after a big growth spurt. Checked my mag and somehow it dropped below a grand. Slowly been bumping it up ever since and its looking good and healthy again.
Hope you get it figures out.

Chris, would high mag be a issue? I got a tyree watermelon off of Rik and i was receeding...It almost gone now...any ideas on saving it?

Yep mag was low, so we will see. hopefully not to late.

Funny thing...Tangs will nip at the edge sometimes & cause them to recede a little.. I have seen mine do it a few times...Not sure if they are going for the coral or the rock just below it..
