chalice question

I have a chalice that i have had for a cpl yrs. Its a real slow grower. That is not a prob. My question is i am noticing a good bit of new growth but no new eyes to go with it. All the eyes i do have a pretty close together but now there is a good bit of growth with no eyes. Is this normal on some chalice's?

I've had a few do that. Then all of the sudden you'll have an "eye" explosion
