so this guy froze his chiller barrel and cracked it. and i lent him my loaner 6th for his 90 tech for about a month.
he had it independently repaired and now he is back in bizz. so for my kindness which for me is just keeping the guy in the hobby, he bought me a chalice colony
i service the tank tomorrow and pick up my "gift". i will post a pic when i get home. so no matter what its cool cuz its a freebee

God's Golden Fleece Chalice

Here's the latest add to my collection. I went in to my favorite LFS recently to pickup a beautiful watermelon colony that I hadn't quite seen before. True golden eyes, a dark red-maroon base that towards the rim turned blue, with the actual rim a bright green. But there's a lot of watermelons out there, and between my favorites the MM and Jayda's it doesn't stand out too much.

Then I saw this. The owner had been holding it for three months to let it full color up- it wasn't on his site yet even. I'm not sure if it was actually for sale at the time, as it took a bit to actually get him to let go of this beauty. My picture does it little justice but hopefully someone with a camera much better than mine will be over to get a solid shot of it soon. The splatter of color on the actual mouth is bright pink but appears orange here. Baby heads on the side are also bright pink that I just didn't capture.

And the gold.. I just couldn't capture how much this coral just GLOWS. It looks like living gold. I've seen a few close to this but nothing actually this nice.

Chalicekeeper - undecided... I honestly haven't been keeping up with frag prices and such. But was gonna make a few frags after it fully adjusts to my tank. But it's been in captivity for 3 months so I'm not worried about color shift... just don't want to over stress it. Just needs a week or so before it sees the dremel.

As for price undecided. The coral was not cheap as one might have guessed so it's not going to be crazy cheap but I'd like to make a little bit of my money back too! If you think you have a reasonable price PM it to me and tell me why you think that price is reasonable... I haven't been keeping track of frag prices for awhile now.

thank you very much condor :) Feeding it regularly to hopefully get some more eyes going on the edges before I go hacking away at it. Normally I dont like fragging colonies like this but 1- kinda need the money (total impulse buy but it's a rare day I see a coral that takes my breath away. Happens only once a year or so). 2- recently nearly killed my prized hillae, which to this day I've never seen a more stunning colony of that species. So I want to make sure I'm not the sole keeper of something so beautiful, and the sooner i cut it the sooner it heals back up and gets back on its way to looking awesome. Can't wait to see what it looks like after a year in captivity.
