Change in like/emoji process?

@revhtree I’m curious if this a “me” problem or a change in how the like/emoji process works as of late. In the past (for years) if I wanted to like (or select an emoji) for a post, I selected “like” and then a bar of emojis popped up and I could toggle through them to select whatever I deemed appropriate. Now (maybe the last couple weeks or so?) when I select “like”, the emoji bar pops up and immediately disappears, leaving the standard “like” (thumbs up). The only way to change that is to select “like” again, at which point the emoji bar pops up and allows me to browse and select from the available emojis.

Of course this is nothing major, and maybe it’s the push I need to stop using emojis! Ha

Looks like a bug! Thanks for sharing. I can duplicate that as well.

You're talking about on mobile right?

I have noticed this too in safari on ios. My current workaround is to hold on the like button for a second or so and then slide my thumb off the side of it before releasing. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries but I can usually get the bar to stay up that way

Yes? Both on my iPhone (mobile) and iPad (not sure if that’s still considered mobile as it doesn’t have the mobile bar at the bottom like my phone).

Ah, thats a problem for me as I use a screen reader and tab through the elements as I’m visually (and let’s be honest….sometimes mentally) challenged. Ha

yes safari on iPadOS usually counts as “mobile” for web dev purposes

I have to hold down on the like button to get the other options to appear. Using mobile browser.

it's usually safe to assume that anytime something gets worse from an accessibility point of view that it's a bug or otherwise unintended consequence of some change. I don't work for R2R but I have been a dev for many years now, and without fail every group I have worked with has always done our best to at least not make those things worse, even if we can't actually make them better lol

I have to say that as far as public forums go, r2r (specifically @revhtree but I know others behind the scenes for sure) has jumped all over it whenever I’ve brought something up. It’s obvious they have a dev(s) on board. Other forums, well…not so much. Not that they don’t care. Just that I know they have to hire someone as they don’t have true devs on board.

I don’t expect people to move the world for me, but truly appreciate it when they do!

My Bain are apps! It’s amazing how many apps have zero considerations for accessibility. Plus a lot of apps (especially reef geared) seem to be farmed out to a low bid third party with no provisions for maintenance.

So true. Many apps are just straight up clunky to use even for users who don't have accessibility needs. touch screens and finger tips together just aren't precise enough for many tasks imo, and the UIs are often not well adapted to being touch interfaces anyway even though that's often the only option they even give anymore, and doing things right on the devices is even worse if not impossible... it can be super frustrating

Frustrating to say the least! Ha! Home Assistant has been a life saver in that regard. I’ve been able to avoid some apps altogether by connecting them to HA (where there are integrations available). Home Assistant is pretty good as far as accessibility. I have had HomeSeer home automation systems for years but they aren’t as accessible.

Few apps (well Apex Fusion) at least have Alexa capabilities. So I can get tank status audibly, as well as log manual test results, perform maintenance, and operate feed modes for when I feed frozen foods. Luckily (I know I’m jinxing myself) no one has used “Alexa, turn off the Skimmer (or anything else for that matter)” on anything I watch/listen…yet.

Ai has made life easier as well. I can use my phones camera to read aloud the numbers from my Milwaukee digital refractometer and my Hanna checkers.

I’m wanting to try out smart glasses for help as well but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

But mother still says your handsome... so there's that. Right? At least that is why my mother tells me to make me feel better.
