changing the lighting times

now that it is summer and the temp is higher im wondering if i can have my lights turn on during the night and not during the day. would doing this affect anything?

As long as the tank does not receive any sunlight throughout the day, you shouldn't have a problem. You can have your lighting period start whenever you want. If you're getting sunlight throughout the day and your lights come on during the night, you are essentially extending your photo period, which can increase algae growth drastically.
