Check out this Petco special!

A qt is always a necessity but good point. Their corals tend to be in really poor condition though.

They make great beginner anemones obviously. Just kidding, why would anyone buy petco livestock

I buy from petco[emoji854], that's cause I don't have a saltwater lfs that is open when I'm not at work. So the only way I can get a fish or a frag is to either take a day off work or get it at petco. I only buy something there if it's really cool and I have to have it. Their prices are like double compare to my sfs dealer

SG - 1.027

The high pH is very odd. Perhaps a buffer was overused? The ammonia is also too high.

That is perfectly understandable. I am just a bit weary of chain petstores since many mishandle their livestock.

Manager of the store called me today. Apparently petco didn't like my picture on Facebook too much, she assured me that the issues have been addressed and all aiptasia has been removed from the tank. And the aquatic specialist will be talked to about keeping up on maintenance

You just cost a (possibly) lazy college kid their job lol

LOL.....no special coupon?

I haven't shopped petco in many years... I've found them to be as above... unhealthy animals, poor selection of cheap, over priced merchandise... until very recently.

A brand new Petco opened recently in Springfield, MO. Guy they hired to run the fish section is a long time member of the local reef club. Knows his stuff, and has made an effort to stock useful dry goods, and so far, is keeping clean, healthy tanks... and at reasonable prices, even. I was in there a few weeks back, bought some frozen mysis and formula one cubes, at a reasonable price. Tanks looked great. A friend called me from the store last week, says they've got a gorgeous 3" powder brown tang in stock, fat and healthy looking, $39. I'm not really wanting a powder brown, but you gotta admit, that's not a bad price.

Seems to be all about who's running the store. And... that seems to be predicated on what they're willing to pay someone to run the store... which isn't usually very much.

My local Petco is giving away some "Free" green bubble algae on their frags. Mentioned it to one of the workers a few weeks ago. Still there as of yesterday. They are "givers"!

My petco had...... free velvet when you purchased a blue tang! I had to get one!

Your Petco manager monitors R2R? How do they know who you are and what your phone number is?

Each store is going to be as good as the staff that oversees their aquatics area. I've got a guy locally who knows his saltwater stuff working at a Petsmart that doesn't even sell saltwater fish. The local PetCo locations pretty much have people that have to ask "which fish is that?" when you say you want to buy a "fill-in-the-blank fish name".

Oh I missed that. Still, then what, they looked you up in the system, found your phone number, and called you?
they probably politely asked for his personal information, paid a small fee and viola.
Seriously though, who cares about the logistics. Corporations want to protect their brand, not outside the realm of possibility they would have looked him up.

I find it disturbing that corporations will look you up, find your phone number, and call you based on what you post on Facebook.

Same here, which is why I don't use facebook.

And of all petco bashing posts I've seen of ich/velvet ridden fish and dead fish in petco tanks, aptasia on LR is what prompted them to action? bizarre.
