Chemiclean experience? Cyano & euyphyllia?

So many forums just say they either loved or hated chemiclean without a lot of elaboration.

Had cyano about a month, it somehow got triggered after a big water change, it’s just slowly getting worse. I increased flow, dosing PNS Probio, blowing rocks few times weekly. My phos is high, I assume from pellets but I didn’t change the regiment for like 2-3 months before that.

But the concern is some of my torches have flesh recession, and none of my numbers are swinging. So idk what’s best for them - chemiclean, trying to lower phosphate while maybe not resolving cyano, blackout etc?

Any advice or experience? I just don’t want to loose all my torches by wait and see methods that may fail.

If you’ve looked into the everything else then I say use it. I’ve used it before without issue, all corals were fine. Read the instructions carefully and follow them exactly and you’ll be fine. IMO. Good luck.

I wouldn’t say I tried everything. I’d say I could try gfo to get phosphate lower or maybe switching to frozen food (but I prefer staying on pellets since they were not having cyano before).

But I feel like each new trial adds so much time of wait and see and I’m unsure if the delay is causing the flesh recession or something else.

I had no problems with my corals at all. I followed the instructions and did a larger than normal water change on the weekend, that was it and it never came back.

Thank you for sharing, it’s hard seeing the good and bad stories. Already beat Dino’s before so I don’t mind the uglies, but hate the idea it can be stressing stuff in the tank

honestly, I wouldn't risk it. CHemiclean doesnt target the specific Cyanobacteria cells, it targets basically most/all bacteria that u spent so long building up in ur tank

I’ve used it several times over the years with no problems. It works well. Just siphon out as much Cyano as you can before you use it. Your skimmer will go nuts after dosing but I just do a large water change directly out of the skimmer while it overflows. After about 10 gal it calms down.

I’ve used it twice in my sps tank with zero problems. Nothing died. No nutrient spikes. Didn’t kill off the biological cycle. All that happened was the cyano was gone within 48 hours and my skimmer overflowed for a bit.

Lowering nutrients is not generally a way to reduce cyano without harming corals.

Problems with chemiclean are not likely directly from the antibiotic, but from toxins released from the dead cyanobacteria, which may vary with cyano types present and the amount of it remaining when you dose it. Try removing a bunch before treatment.
