Can someone share their chiller settings for both the chiller and the pump driving the chiller? I think mine is coming on and off too often. I’ve never run one before now.

Chiller:
1.5 hp works fantastic on my system. Calls for around 1300g an hour.
On 76.0
Off 75.3

Pump:
L2 running at 90%
Safety is set to 74.8 to shut the pump off

Goal:
75-75.5 degrees

If I set the chiller to be on at 75.0 and off at 75.5, I feel it is coming on and off all day. I have a poop ton of lighting blasting this system, chilling is mandatory. Fans are my emergency plan. TIA

The larger the hysteresis band, the longer the cycles and the larger the cyclic temp swing. Save a few watts and set the pump to ramp down to 10% or something during the off cycles.

I would love to take it down way more, say down to 20%. I’m going to have to research how to do that. If nothing else, I can go back through my history and see if it comes on at all when I enter my blue light to no light period of the say and schedule it that way. I could save easily 1.2amps an hour when it’s not in focus. Good stuff, thank you.

Is the tank not getting to temp before chiller turns off?
If it does, might just be because that's a big chiller...
If it does not reach temp when chiller turns off, I might turn up the pump and put more load on the chiller...

And I just leave the pump running all the time and let the chiller turn on/off as it wants. It's 1/3hp on about 300g. It would normally run 30-40 minutes and turn off for a hour, unless the halides are on(in closed canopy)..

So, I left one thing out. The temp controller on the chiller doesn’t match the temps in my system. Meaning, what is 75 on the chiller isn’t 75 in my system. The chiller is lower. I am in the middle of changing my apex brain out for an A3 Pro (what a f^#+{€ headache). Before I switched, I had my chiller simply set to off <75.0. So when I switched it over, I put the above (On 76.0 Off 75.3) to see if this would cut down on the cycles. Below is from my old setting. Hearing yours is on 30-40 minutes per hour, maybe it is what it is. I also probably should bring the temps down on the ac unit in my fishroom too then. I’m keeping that at 77. But I keep my door open to the house more often then it is shut and the house is kept at 72-71. But there is a noticeable temperature difference in my room. The whole house dehumidifier I have in that small space is effectively a heater. I have exhaust fans on all the time sucking air out of the room to the outside too.

How is the chiller plumbed(sump to display, display closed loop, dump to sump)? I assume the apex probe is in the sump. Is there a difference between display and sump temps? (Mine is 1*F)

It doesn’t matter. The chiller cycles on and off based on its capacity vs heat load. If it takes 30 minutes for the tank to rise 1 F, thst number is what it is. So the chiller cycles on every 30 minutes if hysteresis is set to 1 F. The run time is based on the size of the chiller. Say 1HP runs for 10 mins, 1/2 HP for 20 mins, 1/4 HP for 40 mins.

The 1/2 HP would actually run for closer to 13 minutes, to keep up with the heat gain over the time it takes to run, and the 1/4 HP would never actually be able shut off or keep up.

Hope that makes sense sense.

Here is how I have it set up. I’m trying to be like the cool hip kids with this you tube thing. I’m paying for it, might as well figure out how to use it.

Did you ever got it more stable? I also just installed chiller, and now have .5'F swing like 6-7 times per day, not sure if this is healthy ether. Before chiller my my temp would go from 79 to 82-83. But with chiller it would stay in 78-78.5 range. But it would cycle like every 3 hours.

and this is how it was before
