Hi Everyone,

I have just got a 20G rimless tank but it somehow chipped during the shipping. Do you think it would be safe to use? Thanks all for your opinion!

Well, for some more information, the chipping is at the back top corner of the aquarium and on corner of back panel.

The aquarium is around 20” in both length and width, 14” in height and the glass is 5/16” thick.

Sorry that I do not have a picture without the silicone. I just filled it with new silicone once I noticed the chipped before I realized that I should take a picture…

It's hard to tell because of the silicone but it looks like clamshell chip so long as there's no branching cracks I'd use it and just watch it. I created a chip on my tank just like that when I drilled it although it was much smaller. The bulkhead covered it it holds water just fine.

Felix,

I agree with Rock. Don’t look back!

I noticed this is your first post. Welcome to r2r. What is your vision or theme for the tank? Are you coming from the fresh water hobby or is this your first adventure into salt water.
Also, are you in Chicago now? Lake effect snow?

Sure, thanks Rock. There’s no observable runaways so I will keep an eye on it. Also, it is actually above waterline so I suppose it would have lesser stress? I will keep an eye on it then.

Hey Subsea, thanks for your warm welcome! I actually have a smaller saltwater tank right now but I feel like it is kind of crowded, which is the reason I am planning to get a new tank.

Well, TBH, I don’t have a specific idea about the scape of it, probably something like a shallow reef since I personally prefer that. I will probably look on YouTube and try to get some idea.

Yeah, I am in Chicago right now and there is no snow. It’s probably the reflective roof of other building that makes it looks like snowing? I think it’s the reason.
