cichlid question?

I have a small cichlid tank and was wondering what other interesting fish can be put in a cichlid tank. Thanks

I had a few glass catfish in my cichlid tank. Idk if they were visible during this pic of my 46 bow front before I got all reefy n whatnot

Plecos are usually ok with cichlids.

Everybody say's that a tang needs a big tank. Is it so different with a Cichlid? The cycle seems to work the same way. Just thinking... Some of these goldfish in a sawed of wine barrel will outlive all of us... ;)

+1 on plecos (the bigger the better). I've heard stories about the more aggressive cichlids going after their eyes though, just depends on the temperament of the fish. If the tank is small small (like under 75ish gallons) you may have trouble keeping the water clean seeing as plecos are quite literal poop machines. I have two in my 100 gallon freshwater that get along just fine with my two "new world" cichlids (generally less aggressive than Africans). Tank size and type of cichlids would help us give you a better answer though :)

I think the main difference between a tang needing a large tank and cichlids, is that cichlids need the space due to aggression issues.

Like everyone else stated, depends on the type of Cichlids and where they are from. For example, Tanganyika Cichlids do well with others from the same area (such as Synodontis multipunctatus, which require the same habitat). Some of the calmer Cichlids, such as Rams, can be kept with pretty much anything. I have three in my planted tetra tank.
