Since my new tank is one month old this week I figured this would be a good time to start a build thread. This particular 15gal cube I traded for my larger 30
gallon tank due to a cross country move. The first day in its new home was also my first day and it fell to the back of the priority list. With this tank I brought my pair of Clowns, yellow watchman goby, and favorite green toadstool.

gallon tank due to a cross country move. The first day in its new home was also my first day and it fell to the back of the priority list. With this tank I brought my pair of Clowns, yellow watchman goby, and favorite green toadstool. The initial aquascape was as simple as it gets. Just one central rock. Equipment wise I was running 1 ai prime 16hd, stock return pump and an internal filter for some additional flow. This is a photo of what it looked like shortly after being set up.

After getting settled I was able to put more focus towards my admittedly UGLY aquarium and started the upgrade process. First off the water quality in my area is AWFUL and would require sufficient filtration for both mixing salt and topping off fresh water. I went with the aquatic life twist in RODI for ease of use and added an additional carbon filter for chloramine removal. This has provided perfect 0 tds water. In the past I had used salt water from my local reef store so mixing salt water has been new for me. I decided to go with the tropic marin pro-reef salt due to its levels of macro elements as well as trace elements. It is easy to mix and all of my testing has been spot on.

The next problem I wanted to tackle was the lack of flow being provided by the stock return and tiny internal filter. For ease of use and a cleaner look I wanted to avoid adding a bulky powerhead, I don’t have enough coral to need it for the time being. For this I added the Innovative marine Mighty Jet 538 and a 1/2” random flow generator. While this pump may be overboard I appreciate the controllability and physical buttons rather than an app.

My last major addition was a complete overhaul of the aquascape. For this I looked into negative space builds and decided to go with something inspired by the bonsai style. This should maximize flow and coral placement area. Building something like this was much easier said than done but I am happy with the results.

Future plans include increased automation with a hydros controller and fleece roller as well as increased testing and of course…more coral. I hope yall enjoy and please give me any tips and tricks or share your thoughts.

And yes of course I wrote this by hand not ai junk ;)
Best of luck, pictures?

Following along!

This week I set up a new reef controller! I went with the Hydros Minnow for its built in dosing pumps. One is being used for the auto top off and the other is dosing Microbacter7. As far as livestock I added a green fuzzy rhodactis.

If anyone wants to help with placement feel free to mark on the pictures I would greatly appreciate it!

Nutrients on this tank have not moved an inch since day one. Aprox. 2.5 NO3. 3 days after water change.

The color in the photo is not remotely like real life lol
