Hey everyone.
My brother and I went to the beach today. We were in the Tampa area of Florida, specifically Fort Desoto. There were a ton of shells and dead/dying sea creatures. There is detectable red tide in the water but it isn't in full bloom yet.
We collected a ton of small and medium sized empty shells for my aquarium's hermit crabs. How do I clean the shells properly to remove any remains of red tide organisms or toxins?
I want to be 100% safe or I will just throw the shells out or give the nice ones to people who want the shells for stuff other than aquarium usage. If it isn't possible to decontaminate the shells, I don't want them.
