Ok just got a 400 gallon tank. (120x30x30)
I really want a clown tang but I am worried about the aggression.
He will definitely be the last tang I add but I have several other tangs
blue hippo, mimic, orange shoulder, blonde naso, sailfin, and 3 yellows.
what are your thought? would love to hear from people who have/had clown tangs

Most will be aggressive. I've had 3. First 2 went back to LFS cause they were just way too nasty. Not just towards tangs but other fish. Ate anyting and grew. But nasty. Decided to try one more a few years back and this one has been quite tolerable. Got him and a Sohol at about the same time. QT'd together, but seperated by acrylic so they could see each other. Did this for about 6-9 months then added them together. This has been working for a few years now. Got a PBT (tiny) and purple tang (tiny) along with a convict tang I had. Always when adding fish I put them in a speciment container for a few days to a week to see how they do. There is a little sparring with the Sohol and clown tang once in a while, but Sohol prefers to stay on the left side of the tang. Purple is accepted by the Sohol and they hang out. Convict is the one I plan on removing. Likes to chase the PBT about one a month, then fine. No issues with clown tang and other fish.

Always have an exit plan. I setup my rock such that I can easily put a few dividers in the tank and then I don't have to chase as much and only remove the rock in that area.

I believe with the length and size tank you have that a clown will be okay. I have a 200 gallon that’s 6ft long and 30 inches wide with a 5 inch Blonde Naso, 3.5inch Bristletooth and a 3.5 inch Clown tang all getting along fine for 6 months now.

Two of my favorites. I’m to scared to try though I have a small purple, large sailfin large bristletooth and a yellow in my 200 and they all get along. I don’t wanna chance it.

LOL I hear ya guys.
I think clown tangs look stunning.
Everytime I start looking at them, my LFS will caution me.
I almost bit the bullet a few times, saw a pristine medium sized one and I was about to tell em to bag it up for me and the guy stopped me lol. Said it was a trade in and it was beating up all the other guys tangs.

I already have a Red Sea Sailfin and my holy grail tang, Powder Blue, so not sure if a clown is in the cards for me.
Might settle with a Purple or a Gem.

All depends on tank dimensions for the Clown Tang and Sohal Tang. These fish like moderate flow and space to swim. The longer the tank the better. How you introduce them also plays a big part in aggression. There are all sorts of great videos on youtube that show how to keep multiple tangs. You do have a higher chance if you add them together. My clown is the second in the tang Hierarchy, as my Blonde Naso is the biggest and is the boss.
