IME the clowns will kill the gramma - i would only look at fish that rarely leave the sandbed/rockwork like clown gobies, shrimpgobies, etc.

Really depends on the disposition of the clowns. But at that size expect the clowns to be the aggressors. I have a pair in a 25 gallon nano with a neon dottyback and a sixline wrasse - there is only peace because none of those fish will take **** from each other.

if your shrimp died, I'd take a hard look at your water parameters. something must be off. I wouldn't add anything else until you diagnose the problem.

  • how old is your system?
  • What's your filtration?
  • ammonia?
  • nitrate?
  • temp?
  • salinity?
  • pictures?
My system is about 2 years old now I have a filter thats ment for 50 gallons but I have 25 my temp is 79 my salinity is 31-32 ( 1.023- 1.024) my ammonia is about 0.25 and my nitrate is about 5.

your salinity is fine for fish, but inverts generally want 35ppm. I'd work to get that up. Presence of ammonia is also concerning to me, especially if you have had creatures die. I'd do a water change to get that under control/ to zero

Clowns are jerks. I had a 60 gallon cube and the clowns would kill every animal besides snails and coral. I have another tank and added anthias. The clowns started to bite their tails and fins. I transferred the anthias to my other tank that will not have clowns.

I had a pair of percula clowns with a royal Gramma in a 29 gallon and they were fine together. The Gramma did have some caves to disappear into. They would occasionally mouth each other if the Gramma got close to their eggs. My clowns have never been aggressive towards other fish, I've had gobies and sixline wrasses as well, although when I rearranged/removed some rocks the female almost killed her mate.

I have 2 clowns and a royal gamma in my 26g tank. The clowns could care less about the RG. I've seen the RG get close to their nem before and they still didn't seem bothered.

Ive had them together with no concerns. For surface agitation, it does Not appear you have an overflow. You can pitch flow pumps upwards a little and even add a Hang on back power filter to help with that

Put a mirror on the tank. Clowns will fight themselves. Amazon has a good cheap one with suctions. They might nip at gramma for a couome days but after that will be fine. Grammas are bold in their own right so will be fine. Could also add 3 fish. Get the clowns confused who to chase

I would suggest a gramma azure damsel and chromis. All major easy and not aggressive and perfect for a 25g

For surface agitation I was thinking of getting a surface skimmer and a hang on the back protein skimmer

That too will work and IceCap K1-50 or 100 looks and works like a full sized skimmer
