How do you keep the fish from going into the overflow? And how did you make that overflow connect to all?

How do you keep the fish from going into the overflow? And how did you make that overflow connect to all?
There all plumed together and there are overflow screens that keep them from the overflow. The fry tanks are shut off with valves and i use air stones un till there old enough to handle the flow then i just open the valves back up.
