Hi, I bought this small clownfish a few months sold as a captive bred ‘juvenile maroon’. Is that what he is? He doesn’t have the spines by his cheeks. Thanks! Here are some pics:

Thx Crabs! I was hoping he was a maroon, cause we wanted a juvenile one, so we can watch him grow. He does look like a Gold Dot, except no spines. Do the spines come as they age? Thx!
Possibly. I'm not 100% familiar with maroons, only ever kept O. clowns. But I hope, with my upgrade to get a pair of lightning maroons :)

Ok, thx! Lightnings are cool too! Post pics when you get them! Good luck w/ your updrade!!
Agreed, it's a type of maroon. Gold dot or flake maroon.
Thx DSC! ( ❤️ Your avatar! I've had my yellowtail ( purple) since he was little! Great personality and not too bossy)

Awesome! How long have you had yours? How big is he? Mine is about 2 - 2/12 inches.
Thanks everyone for your help!!

thank you, 3 months, he's about 1 1/2" and he doesn't like it when I get near his nem. ;Rage:rolleyes::) He looks like a bulldog with his underbite lol.

Haha! They do have the underbite, LOL. Yours is a baby too! I hope mine keeps the darker areas he has now. Looks very nice. Good luck w/ yours!:)

Thank you, you as well. I have huge female gold striped maroon in my QT that I’m selling, but I might try to pair them up.

oh! HAHA I wanted to have two Maroons, but I wasn't sure if they would get along. I didn't want to upset the one I have now.

If you do decide to get another one, I wouldn’t wait too long. The one you have will own that tank if he/she hasn’t already :) and it will be a lot harder to pair them.

Have you successfully had two maroons in your tank? Are they happier as a pair? HAHA, so far he rules his corner only, when no other fish are around. LOL He has claimed a back corner of the tank by my overflow box and heater. He isn't aggressive at all. My Flame Hawk likes to perch back there and then he just swims in front of the over flow until the Flame Hawk swims away. I would hate to add another and upset him.

Is there an anemone in the tank? From my experience with maroon, it’s better to get another maroon without the nem first. Your little one will become more territorial if it claims the Nem. So, right now since he has only claimed the back corner I think you will be ok. In this hobby we will never know until we take a shot ;) good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks! :) I will definitely think it over! No Nem and no plans for one either. It is a 125 gallon FOWLR. and I will update if he gets a buddy! Thanks again for your insight and time! :)

So, here’s what I got going on in my tank, mind you this is a 150g tank. Like I mentioned before I’ve had the Goldflake for about 3 months. I got this Gold Nugget 3 weeks ago and it has claimed the torch :) The Goldflake has his bubble tip on the other side of the tank. These 2 have met in the tank many times when feeding and they don’t mind each other. After feeding, they both go back into their own hosts:). Again, this is just my own experience in my tank. I don’t claim for it to work with others as Maroons are the most aggressive clowns. Happy clowning and good luck!
