Clownfish un-pairing?

Not even sure the correct terminology, but I’ve had my first clownfish for about 5 months, recently I crossed my fingers and added a smaller clownfish (2nd picture) and the newest one took to the bigger one like white on rice. He stuck to his side, they were always together for at least least 2 months… now the larger has moved corners and seemingly abandoned the smaller one (who is still in the old corner). They have not been back together since, but are seemingly ok.

Does this sometimes happen? Clownfish bond and then break away?

Yes, I have a pair unbond and the female actually killed the male before I could get him out of the tank.

Ok so far they’re just on opposite sides of the tank, no killing yet. Maybe they settled it outside of court…

Awww they broke up, fish I think are more complex then we give then credit for. They tried bonding and maybe their temperaments and personalities didn't mesh well. I would observe but if one becomes aggressive maybe remove the aggressor?

Depends on how small, small is to you.
Could smaller one start to transition?
Anything more than an inch is a maybe IMM.

Thank you :) So far the larger just moved to the opposite side of the tank, I’ll keep an eye out but they’re just 100% ignoring one another right now.

Yes! The smaller is a voracious eater

Update: They are reunited. The smaller one has found the larger one across the tank and is again stuck to them.
