Call a landscaping place to level the ground for our new pool. They said they would be out that day or the next. No call no show. Then our back door started binding and didn’t want to close. I wanted to replace it anyway so I went to the hardware store to get a new the and have it installed. The door was marked at $1000 and it said it would be anywhere from $200 to $800 so I’m figuring right around $2000 total. I set an appointment to get the door measured. The guy shows up a few days later I go to the hardware store to get the door and set up the install the guy runs up the total and it’s $3000. I didn’t add anything to the door or get any extras. Guy tells me the tag isn’t accurate. Long story short I told the guy forget it. Door stopped sticking for now. Called a pool place to get the ground level and they haven’t came out yet been a few days now.

Considering almost anyone can get a contractors license and most are self employed, it’s completely hit or miss sometimes. Best bet is to find someone in the area that has used a contractor for similar services.

Story time: my parents hired a guy to build a gazebo on the cheap. Poured the imbeds and disappeared. Phone calls. Emails. Nothing. Paid someone else to do the work. Guy showed up at the door 4 months later asking if he could finish the work. Turns out his only phone call wasn’t to the customer.

You might can reach out to a excavation company and they could come out and level an area for you.
