A Quick Stand Construction Question...

I just completed framing out a 72"x24" stand on which I will be placing 2 tanks. The first is 48" and the second is 24".

I intend to place a piece of 3/4 plywood on top, where the tanks will rest.

Can I use (3) 24"x24" pieces instead of (1) 24"x72" piece?

It would be easier to bring materials home if I can use 3 pieces instead of 1 4'x8' sheet of plywood.

I would say that's fine as long as there is a support under each of the joins

You will have to use a tank mat but you should be ok.
When I say that it would be best to have the plywood cut from the same sheet. All plywood is not created equal so thickness ever so slight could case a problem over time.

That's a good point, and one I hadn't considered.

Yeah... that wouldn't be the case.

Then one peice I wouldn't do it personally if you put the peices on the stand and with your hands pushed you would see a lot of deflection in the joins with no support underneath

Are these tanks trimless? If they have plastic trim I wouldn't worry about the keeping it one piece as the outer portion of the stand does all the supporting. However if they are trimless, as mentioned above the separate pieces should be supported from underneath.
