It also seems to cook cyano. I boiled mine in a pyrex measuring cup. 4 minutes in the microwave. Used about 1 cup on GHA the rest on some sand bed cyano. The cyano went from dark red to a bright orange color, then blew away in the flow.

Sweet hope it works out the same for you. I am paying attention to see if there is any regrowth. None so far. :)

Agreed, I purchased dinoxal in the event of dinos and pretty sure it is the same as dino x. Figured that out after the fact but I saw some good success stories and bought it. Had to have it shipped from Germany and still haven't touched it simply because it is a chemical.

The tank is still under a year and they both used to read 0ppm. I started dosing no3 and removed a di filter from my rodi unit to add some po4 with the top offs. I see a spot or two of cyano in my low flow areas once and a while nothing to worry about though. Not counting the return pump there is about 50 times turnover in the DT from the powerheads. So cyano really can't take hold. If run evrything full blast its like 85 times. I hope to get my no3 between 3-5ppm in time but I am letting the system build up to it.

Absolutely a possibility! I have gotten to close to some of my acros and killed some of the colony hat was encrusting. If the tank is stable they can recover. Mine did but never a gaurentee that they will. But best route is to not get to close. Also pay attention to the flow it can work to your advantage but also cause damage.

Probably better to. I literally get about an inch away from my corals. I wouldn't recommend getting any closer. But try it on areas away from corals to see how it behaves before getting close.

No, I really dont think so. This is happening in the tank under the water's surface. That would only happen cleaning the rock outside of the water or if you boiled the whole tank. [emoji15].

So its not really boiling water when it hits the algea?

I would imagine it cools slightly but I take it off the stove and go straight to the tank. So technically no it is not still boiling but its dang close.

Oh FYI if you do this keep the baster pointed down when moving to the tank from the container you heated the water in and try to be as close as you can to the tank.

I would still be worried it would “boil” palys or other toxins under water and when it reaches the surface it would go into the air

Like anything that is an uncertainty there is risk. I find this scenario highly unlikely though. The tank water cools that boiling water extremely fast. Zoas and palys can release toxins any time they are disturbed to my understanding and based on your theory surface disturbance would release it into the air. So a lot of reefers should be laying on the floor from just putting the frags into the tank. 8oz to a quart of water should only increase you temp slightly not drastically. Plus it is what works for me and thought I'd share. But I applaud you.you should be over cautious with anything concerning your reef or health. That is how you find holes in systems or plans.

Not airborne moving, crushing etc wont kill, it might make you sick heart palpitations etc (i have felt before) but as far as i know only airborne and eating can cause real damage

right otherwise you would be boiling your fish inverts coral etc but what you are talking about is targeting the rock with very hot water bubbles can bring the toxins to the surface and make it airborne you are right next to your tank doing this so breathing it in is very likely

This is where the disconnect was. It is not bubbling as it goes in just really hot. And given perfect storm situation I am sure it can happen. I can more clearly understand your ?'s and perspective now. [emoji106]
