Started cycling 1.5 weeks ago.
Dry rock, dry sand, everything sterile as can get.

Tossed in a small deli shrimp and a bio ball from my sump and took the bio ball back out because I didn’t want to reintroduce anything bad.

A week went by and I noticed a lot of copepods on the glass. Today, there’s probably thousands in there. How are they still alive, thriving, and multiplying if ammonia is up and showing on test kits

Spontaneous generation fueled by rotting shrimp and the buildling blocks of life that are coded into the sand like DNA, but without hydration before immersion. Simple Science. Life happened, life is still happening.

(You should haved wiped your ball off before you dumped it in).
