My buddy is shutting down his tank that he has had running for quite a long time. He recently just asked me if I wanted this large colony from his tank. And he sent the below photo but when I asked him what it was he didn’t remember. From what I can tell it is definitely an SPS and my best guess would be some kind of montipora. It is aprox 10”w 6”L and 10” h, and it has a deep maroon color with the tips of its branches fading to white. I also think it’s SPS because he said it’s not visible in the photo but there are hundreds of small polyps visible.

Any one have any idea of what exactly this is?

Could be a Digitata. When you get the piece try and get an image under white lighting so you can get an accurate ID.

Looks like a nice piece what ever it is.
