Our Tonga Flame Hawks — From Collection to Our Tanks
Hey Reef2Reef! I wanted to give you guys a little background on our Tonga flame hawks and how they get to us at Coral Monsters.
Our divers collect them in Tonga and bring them back to our facility there, where we hold and care for them before shipping them to us here in Miami.
I post videos to my WhatsApp group daily of our divers collecting overseas. We see the fish literally being collected, then follow their journey through our facility in Tonga until they arrive in our tanks here. Knowing who collected them and how they’ve been cared for along the way makes a huge difference to us.
Once they arrive, like all my fish, they go through my quarantine and conditioning program for about three weeks before being offered for sale. During quarantine, we treat with nitrofurazone, praziquantel, and copper while getting them settled into tank life, eating consistently, and accustomed to tank mates.
In my experience, proper quarantine and conditioning make such a difference in how fish settle into their new homes and do over the long term. There’s something really special about seeing a fish thriving in our tanks when we’ve followed its journey from the very beginning.
These guys are really bright and fat!!! $60
