Coral Restoration Aquariums

South Caicos Coral Reef Consortium
Introduction
Hey! The South Caicos Coral Reef Consortium began in 2023 in partnership with the School for Field Studies, Salterra Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos Reef Fund, and the Reef Institute. We focus on coral reef research and restoration in the Caribbean, focusing on the conservation of endangered coral species. We have in-situ coral nurseries at five sites. Our flow-through seawater lab was established in 2024 to offer more opportunities for research and live animal holding, and also where we currently fragment and grow the slower-growing corals of the Caribbean, such as brain, boulder, and star corals. The lab also functions as an education and outreach platform for the local community and resort guests that don't have the opportunity to snorkel or dive our reefs.

Excited to hear any questions, and please reach out if you are interested in visiting! Travel to South Caicos is not the easiest, though tours of the Coral Lab are free. Thank you for your interest and support in preserving our ocean ecosystems.

So cool! I see you got some mangroves going too, love it.

Thank you, we do our part to help our local reefs! Currently we have about 500 frag disks in the aquariums and an additional 500 in further grow-out on our ocean nursery structures. This partnership is still new, and we are excited to continue growing! And yes, growing mangroves is fun too :)
