Who on here quarantines their frags before putting them in their DT ?

K because someone gave me advise to QT them for 76 days before going into the display! He said that if there was any fish in the system then there could be parasites in the frags so just checking to see if someone else will chime in !!

It is true.
I never do it, but I also don't quarantine any fish. Same with snails which can carry ich "eggs" trapped inside their shells.

Yea I've never quarantined anything before but I want to do everything right with my first big tank lol

There is another thread where we discussed about the 2 schools:
- parasite free tanks - in this case everything, but EVERYTHING (fishes, snails, corals, even live rock) have to be quarantined for at least 72 days
- happy tanks :) (like mine) - where I dont quarantine anything (corals take the baths for pests) - but trying to keep fishes happy and without any stress, so their immunity system can fight any infection. I have ich in my tank (actually I dropped some sick fishes in to save them) and anytime I see signs of ich means that something is wrong with the tank. Lots of hiding places for fishes, pristine water, no incompatibilities (like too many of same species), various and sufficient food (when I say various is like 10-15 types of food which I alternate), very stable water conditions, etc. Thinks on fishes like on SPS corals. If you have water good enough for a SPS coral then is OK for happy fishes. Avoid any chasing and stress like two dwarf angelfishes in same tank, similar colored / shaped fishes

I don't ever QT, or acclimate (don't think this is the best way, I'm just lazy like that). I rarely lose coral after putting them in and have not lost one of the last roughly 30 coral I most recently got because of this... HOWEVER, a few years back I got a frag with monti eating nudis (MEN) and it totally wiped out all my montis in my tank, wish I would have QT'd then... now I just buy from the same, trusted people.

Coral pests and fish desease are totally different. Pests are easy to manage- few minutes of drop and you are safe. Fishes can fight common diseases if are well fed and happy. This is my approach. I have to admit that never tried ich sensitive fishes as blue tangs, but most of common smaller fishes

I don't QT fish, but always dip and QT coral. I've had MEN....lol monti nudis and AEFW a few time and lost literally a couple thousand in coral. Coral pest should be feared. Be afraid, very afraid!

Well the title of the thread is coral so that is what I talked about... MEN is not easy to manage once it gets in your tank. I had to just let them run their coarse and eat all their food until they finally starved themselves out.

Coral drips and even fresh water do miracles against pests. I had tons of zoa nudies and get rid of them with ro water dips. Even if you quarantine an infested coral he will just wanish in that tank. Drip them [emoji1] and is safer

I have a yellow and a kole tang. Some signs of ich until settled, but since half year healthy
As i know powder tangs are more sensitive, but my tank is too small to try them

Some pests like MEN it is not that easy... wish it was. Even if you dip you don't kill the eggs and neither does freshwater dips. Yes, if I would have QT'd I probably still would have lost the monti frag it came on, but would still have all my other ones I was growing out for a while. I think it is a good idea to QT, but I just don't have the room to set up a tank for that.
