One time I saw my mantis shrimp Oatmeal punch the glass thermometer in her tank. I'm not really sure why she did it and I've never seen her do it since and I never thought of it again until today when it just occurred to me - what if she had shattered it? I'd have toxic mercury leaching out into the water! It's only there as a visual backup for the Inkbird temperature controller anyway. I wonder if I should replace it with an external digital one?

Yeah definitely feels like playing with fire having that thermometer in there. It was weeks ago that she hit it and it didn’t occur to me at the time that I ought to remove it, but I’ll get something else instead.
