Couldn't help it! Had to get them

As I've mentioned before like many of us I came over from the freshwater world. But for a while now I've been strictly saltwater. But Saturday i saw someone on Facebook selling a breeding pair of freshwater angels and I had to get them. Angels are mine and my wife's favorite fw fish. So I made arrangements to pick them up yesterday day. I picked them up and she told me they've laid before but all the other fish got the eggs before they could hatch even though the parents tired as hard as they could to keep them away.

Well I came home today to find they had already laid. I was so excited as I've always wanted a pair of breeding Angels.

Here's a pic of the eggs and hopefully they do well in the tank. It's just the parents in there this batch is a test run to see how they survive and how good the parents are.

Don't mind the beach decor. It's stuff I just through in so it wouldn't look empty, stuff we had from our fist fw tank. But here they are.

The female is the light colored one and the males Thea the dark one

I find it odd that they paired up because even though there the Angels there a different group I guess you would say from each other and I was under the impression they wouldn't breed with other groups

Gorgeous pair! When I was a kid my dad bred Angels and Discus. I helped him out a lot, and always had a soft spot for the Angels. If I ever went back to FW it would be for Angels. Good luck with them!

Hey thanks. I've had about every kind of South American and African chick if you could think of and my top 3 favorites are Angels discus and German blue Rams. I had a nice pair of Rams that were doing good till the male got stuck and died and then I could never get any to pair up again.

Unfortunately they are there eggs so next batch I'll be putting the eggs else where

I might be inclined to give them a couple of chances. They're brand new to your home, so may have been spooked. IME Angels are almost always good parents, as long as they don't think they need to 'save the day'. Way easier to let them do the work than try to cull and aerate properly.

Yeah maybe I will. Some start to get a fungus so I tried to take them out but I couldn't get them all and the next day they ate all the good eggs and left the ones with fungus. Then the next day the ones with fungus were gone. For some reason they laid them on the filter so I equipped it with a sponge. I may have spooked them into not looking after them properly

I've got brine shrimp eggs I can hatch a day before the fry become free swimming

You're making me want to go out and find me some Angels!!!

IME if they're eating the viable eggs before the bad ones, they're trying to 'save' the viable ones, which is actually a good sign. We used to cut slate tile into 2-3" strips and put that in front of where they were laying.. and they would almost always lay on that instead, which is really good in the event you decide to move the eggs. But we only had 1 pair out of several dozen that wouldn't care for their eggs once they got the hang of things, so I personally would give them a bit of time. :)

BBS are great for FW Angel fry, that's all we ever used, and we didn't generally lose a batch once they hatched. :)

The lady that had them before said they always laid on the back which she had painted black so maybe that's why they laid on the filter.

There's a pair at a store I stop at and they lay like every week and he sells every baby they have its pretty cool to see them at different sizes

Like blue and green parakeets, pinto and bay horses, black and white people, Montana white and mocha clownfish . . . they're still both the same species, and recognize that in one another. They're also beautiful fish, and anybody should be able to recognize that!!

I had a breeding pair of the Dalmatian kind like you have. They laid eggs every month or so. 1 batch in 3 would hatch but none of them ever survived. It is very hard to rear angel fry but good luck!
