I was just assuming these guys are both gorillas. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the white/purple from a better vantage one in the hole yet. He’s getting too big to be completely hidden, just biding my time and nonchalantly trying to catch.

Tiny crab in vial; the vial is hardly wider than a thumb. Doesn’t yet have any color really.

All MR, some of it was FL cured. I had already gotten a good # out last February after shipping.

I’ve never seen such violet looking color; (sorry not under whites). Thanks for checking em out!

The one in the glass could be a pitho crab , not sure about the purple one .

Thanks! I caught the bigger last night with some comedy. Will look to upload video of the initial ordeal and post capture. It looks more and more like spineback hairy crab

One in the glass is definitely not a pitho crab. Dosent look like a typical "gorilla crab" though. Need a better picture.
Sorry, these lab grade media bottles are great quality but not for detailed viewing. They got sump dumped already but I can lazily poke around next WC.

Initially very interested in trap after setting in tank before securing trap better

Watching a blue leg check it out “safely” and then joining but there’s not enough room on the ledge. Apologies I unintentionally narrated and uploaded with audio there is an f bomb in this.

Blue leg gracefully showing how it’s done

Reaping the reward and spreading the good funk into the water

Spineback hairy studying a second blue leg fiddle with the trap.

So miraculously, the spineback hairy crab was in the trap by himself with the door closed! The result I wanted so I’m not asking questions but I’m asking questions! Idk how the blue leg got out but it sure must have been an impressive climb out without setting the door on themselves. I have to imagine a lot of shell jamming technique and clam protein pump.
