Cruelly small fish display tanks

I saw a new store in north jersey that had fish displayed in what seems like cruel and stressfully small display tanks, nothing to hide in...in some cases fish like 3" tangs in these tiny 4"4"6" tanks.

Are there any laws about cruelty in situations like this?

No, there isn't. I am generally against tangs in small places but temporary cramped corners for the sake of treatment say in qt is a necessary evil. LFS simply do not have the real estate or capital to house fish in proper tanks by and large, or at least if they did the customers wouldn't pay the 2x+ premium necessary after allocating the increased fixed costs to each fish sale to remain profitable.

Some stores are worse than others, but it's just not realistic to expect much, unfortunately. Things are what they are..
