So I usually don't recommend keeping both at the same time because when I did, the hermits killed the snails to just "try out" the shells.

I've always leaned towards snails but recently have been thinking about trying hermits again.
Anyone have any Pros and cons of snails v hermits?

I keep scarlet hermits with tons of extra shells. The pyramid snails get my snail cuc before the hermits even notice them.
I got rid of hermits for a while but nothing cleans a sump better than crabs/hermits. At least in my tank lol

Hermits do a fantastic job on algae that snails can't graze. However, if they don't have easy access to shells, they'll kill a snail for them. Or if they aren't getting enough food.

As long as you feed the hermits occasionally they should be fine with snails.
