Curious what you think????

So there has been some things that I have noticed lately that is happening over and over again to me. I don't know how to explain the way I feel but it just kind of bothers me, maybe it's just me, maybe not but I would like to hear what everyone else thinks. And let me say this is not happening here, all of R2R is great!

1. One thing that I have noticed lately is that someone asks a question on why their tank is showing certain things on tests and you give them the answer, your told your wrong. Well how do you know if I'm wrong when you obviously don't know the answer if your asking for help....

2. Why are people these days in such a rush to cycle their tanks??? But wait, you can't just put this stuff from a bottle in and add fish the same day???? Which brings me back to #1, I offer help and they totally reject my answer and "that's not why I'm getting ammonia showing up'' ok that's right, you "person" setting up you first tank knows everything.

Sorry if this is more of a rant than a discussion or a question. I love this hobby and all that surrounds it. I don't know everything or ever claim to. I'm just frustrated I guess when people ask for help and you try to help them and they don't want to hear it. I just don't get it at all. Maybe it's me and the way I answer, who knows.. I try and be as polite as possible and not be arrogant at all when formulating an answer to these folks. Has anyone ever been through this sort of thing? I truly love helping people get into this wonderful hobby but lately those "people" make me want to stick to my self and let them fail like I did at first and sometimes still do.

People havent changed, many want to be told what they want to hear.
Most nowadays dont understand Process over product. Amazon prime instant. And kids arent taught how to use scissors or have shop class.

And the internet makes you an expert. Look at Milk and Inoculation. I live in Cali, remember the Disney measles outbreak and the epidemiology uncovered there? the very poor uninsured workers and the ultra rich.

And You did forget to mention the ones who strait up lie.

You can do what I do sometimes. Trick them into actually thinking.

But what hasn't changed is, you find good ones out there. And the passionate ones who do appreciate the help and the hobby.

Firstly I completely agree with you. mostly people post questions to get validation for what they already assume to be true. There is a name for this. It's called being an "*******"

There is almost no way to get through to an *******, they do not care about your experience if it doesn't fit with what they already know. It's better to assess the type of person you're offering valuable advice to before writing a multi-paragraph response.

i still have a scar on my finger from the band saw. Taught me a lot.
When I cut my finger I taught the whole class a few words they never heard.

I Had to leave a FB group b/c of this kinda thing. Far far to many newbies that...were not just new but also didnt want to learn. And they chip in and support each other like the dude with hair algea over growth is telling the instant cycle it been a week with high ammonias it's cool... add more fish. It was tickin me off, had to leave.

I know that many of the "facts" in reef keeping are kinda bendable...but there are Some rules to it all.

This is one of the things that really to be honest triggered this thread. We may have been reading one of the same posts and I was actually discussing his "no need for a cycle, instant reef tank in a bottle" and why he was seeing ammonia in his tank after a week of it being set up with reel reef rock. Just saying, I'm not bashing on anyone, just one of the many discussions I've had with a few groups of people.

I enjoy helping new people in this hobby. I had someone who is one of he most knowledgeable people in this hobby that I actually know, not to mention the great members here and I appreciated that, so I like to pass it on if it could maybe, possibly help someone out.

Many people today lack patience, in this Hobby you really need to be patient.

Some see a beautiful tank and want the same but they want it Now.
Many do not realize the time that it takes to let things progress naturally.

I tend to recommend to people to have at least one other hobby to keep them busy when they have a reef tank.
They tends to make the wait go by quicker and keeps them from messing with the tank so much

I operate a local fish group and yes, the "I want it now" is strong
with new hobbyist. Just watched one of my members kill a lot of fish by starting and stocking a "reef" cube in one day.

As a newby here I appreciate all the help of those who answer my questions.

I put a bottle of the bacteria in - but I didn't do it with the expectation of being able to add fish instantly or having the tank cycled substantially faster. My goal was simply to hopefully help seed the colonies of bacteria I want in the tank. I figure if it helps - it helps - if it doesn't - I didn't spend much on it.

I have used such things in fresh water with great success but I know Marine is very different.

That said - yeah - people are impatient experts. I do professional photography as a hobby and you'd be surprised how many people don't want to pay me for my services for their wedding/whatever because Uncle Joe has a 'camera' and 'knows how to take pictures.'

Instant gratification is what people expect these days - if the reward isn't instant - it's not fast enough.
