Cutting a leather coral

I’d appreciate any tips on fragging this leather coral. It’s gotten way too big for the tank. Thanks

I just snip away at mine with the scissors. After I use a toothpick and rubber bands to attach it to a new rock.

They are very forgiving. Try to cut a small piece and see its reaction then you will get more comfortable. At least what I experienced

I have not done it yet but my lfs guy was pretty unconcerned with taking this huge mother out of the water. I would be more careful use a razor blade good light and leave it in the water. Maybe someone can answer that has done it with success

I think whatever is most comfortable for you. I cut mine inside the tank since they are firmly attached to my rock structure. If you can take it out it will probably make it easier and will cloud the water less. I usually cut additional pieces of the 1st big snip outside of the tank.

Leathers are super forgiving. It’s usually best to cut them outside the tank if you can manage to and then dip in an iodine solution so reduce the likelihood of an infection taking hold. That said, if not possible, make sure that you have carbon available since this guy is pretty giant and it’ll likely throw a lot of slime into the water column that could cause issues for other corals.
