Hello, im new to saltwater. I bought a tank over a year ago and have been researching and buying everything to get it going. I finally started cycling 3 weeks ago. Things arnt going as i expected. 75g with 30g sump. Started with dr tims one snd only and ammonium. Dosed it up to 2ppm ammonia. It took about a week for nitrite to show up. I added another 1/4 dose and that disappeared within a day. I know nitrites are irrelevant but they spiked to over 15ppm and have been that way for well over a week. I tested nitrates today and they are 40.2. Should i just see how fast my tank will process another 2ppm ammonia? I don't want to overdose it.

Nitrites don’t matter and they affect nitrates levels. The fact that you have nitrates shows your cycle is done.

Test another 2 ppm of ammonia and if it gets processed to 0 ppm in 24 hours, do a WC and you’re done !
