Has anyone ever done a test with a freshwater cycle and slowly converted the tank to brackish/saltwater I'd love to hear the results?Currently have a tank laying around that i do strange things with, like stated. If not, I was thinking about starting such an experiment using the Aquabiomics Microbiome test monthly from start to finish over the course of and year. No fish, no coral, just the sweet sweet biome and maybe some ammonia. Food for thought. Happy reefing!!

Good thought, but I think you'll find that the bacteria that populate the freshwater bio media cannot survive in full saltwater. The marine bacteria would have a better chance of surviving at the lower, freshwater salinity, but not the reverse, is my understanding 🙂

I vary much agree. But I do not and can not say what would, could, or might survive the change over and at what population would it survive. More of a numbers game, how much of what would survive and in what numbers. Not what environment the bacteria would be best or thrive in.
