Need some advice this is my third tank I set up and here are some details of the set up
I have about 2 inches of live sand bed, 20lbs of dry rock.
I got the Dr Tims One and Only for 65 gal tank here is the problem when I added Amonia I added for total volume with sump witch is 79Gal (its a Red Sea Reefer 300) and I added per instructions on day 1 and day 3 (amonia for 79 gal insted if 65 gal (witch is the display volume))
Here are my Params day by day until today
Day 2
PH= 8.2
NH3= 2 (per Red sea Marine Care Multi test kit witch is as far as it reads per color)
NO2= 0

Day 3 (I did added amonia this is the last day I added since I did not realice until later)
PH= 8.2
NH3= 2
NO2= 0

Day 4
PH= 8.2
NH3= 2
NO2=0.1

Day 5
PH= 8.2
NH3= 2.0
NO2=0.1

Day 6 (Per Dr Tim suppouse to add amonia I DID NOT add it since I realice my mistake and I did not want to overload the System)
PH= 8.2
NH3= 2 (no change at all so I start to worry)
NO2= .2 (Nitrite start to raise but Amonia nothing at all)

Day 7
PH= 8.2
NH3= 2
NO2= .5

Day 8
PH= 8.2
NH3= 1.2 (start to low Down a bit)
NO2= .5

Day 9
PH=8.2
NH3= 1.2
NO2= .5

Day 10 witch is TODAY
PH= 8.2
NH3= .8
NO2= .5

So I think is coming Down a little slower than I experience before on my previous tanks my thoughts are:

1.- should I add microbacter seven?
2.- should I do a little water change 20%?
3.- Leave it as its and wait until system chatches up with the currect amonia load?

Leave it as it is, you'll be fine 🙂

A fishless cycle using Dr. Tim's typically takes about 3 weeks, give or take, and you often won't see the ammoina decline much until two weeks or so in.

If you did add too much ammonia, it's not that serious, the bacteria will catch up in time.

Good luck with your new tank!

My other 2 tanks usually cycles in 2 weeks, thank you I guess this one will take longer due to the extra amonia charge
