Got this far and unfortunately ended in a tragic alk swing in August during vacation lost all sps. Will be trying again as soon as i can get my hands on another meteor shower Cyphastrea
Awe, I'm sorry to hear that. Definitely looked cool and the concept is worth playing around with. I got on to this old thread because I don't understand how people leave encrusting corals in frag plugs... Imo, it just looks so bad once it's wrapped around the round plug. Why aren't people doing it differently? Why aren't encrusting plugs with different shapes more widely used???

Well spoiler alert I have a deep blue 36 frag tank I’m slowly building I plan to dedicate mostly to experimenting with encrusting corals

Just saw this pop up.... I have a life size resin skull encrusting out with Bizarro Cyphastrea. I started with the frag plug on the top of the head and after encrusting out approx. 1/2” on to the skull I will pop the frag plug off and move to a different location. This definitely helps speed up the encrusting process!
Good luck to you with your experimentation with encrusters!!!

Definitely trying this with some coral skeletons I have in my tank! I might even have to try it on the sunken pirate ship in there  :)
