I saw a post on Facebook some time ago asking what was the last thing you built for your tank. Well now, I´m no engineer...lol and I have kept freshwater fish since I was 16 (oh man I´m now 53) and have never built anything myself for my hobby. But I have done everything that can be possibly done, freshwater wise that can be done.

So I got bored and have in the last six months turned my hand to salt water and coral/reef.

I, like many have made many mistakes. Some costly but I think I am learning & improving every day. I have fish in my 55g/210 litre cube that have been with me from the start. So I must be doing something right. (good husbandry)

Coral keeping I have just gotten into in the last few months. Now here is where my D I Y thing comes into play.

I don´t have a big Problem with water conditions. But I have ssen many things written about Refugiums. I live in Germany (expat. English) and Refugiums are just non exsistent. So I looked to my homeland England and Cleartides Refugiums......Oh man expensive! So here we go, D I Y....

A breeding box with 3 compartments. some miracle mud a pump and hey presto a Refugium. Now all I need is some algae and I have a very cheap Refugium. Wether it works or not? well I will have to Report back here again.

That looks good. DIY is the way to go on many things but especially sumps/refuguims.
I've had the best luck using a cheap 6500k compact fluorescent light bulb.
